dear world,

let me teach you something about psychology and two commonly confused disorders... schizophrenia is not disassociative identity disorder (DID was previously known as multiple personality disorder), schizophrenia has three "flavors" and none of them involve having a different personality than your standard personality - typically it involves hearing voices that are nice or mean, seeing things that aren't there, delusions, intrusive thoughts, catatonic behavior and disorganized thoughts... also pretty much thinking anyone is out to get you from aliens to the government... this includes thinking people are waiting in the walls to kill you. DID is where a 40 year old man has the personality of an 8 year old girl... see the difference to people who understand psychology it's like using effect when you mean affect or messing up your to/too/two's or their/there's.

	OMG BIGGEST PET PEEVE EVER in movies and books, seriously. I'm like THAT IS NOT SCHIZOPHRENIA. Drives me up the freaking wall. The moment a movie or book makes this HUGE GIANT mistake, I'm so turned off by it. (Reply to this) (Thread)

	it happens so often and i agree. it's like nails down a chalkboard to my brain because it takes every single ounce of strength not to correct them. in books & tv & movies it makes me want to cry. and the thing is like... it's not that hard i mean multiple personality disorder is pretty common knowledge and it tells you what it freaking is in the name! I'm not even going to bother with MULTIPLE PERSONALITY disorder, cause like you said the NAME says it all.

Sorry! This bugs the crap out of me. I'm like, "You're playing a psychiatrist! You would know this!"

I did once see a movie where they sort of thumbed their nose up at all the movies and books getting it wrong. I can't remember which one it was though. :(

see it's a pet peeve of mine mostly because i was a psychology major and i work in the mental health field. i talk to people on a regular basis who have schizophrenia or schizo affective disorder so for me it's like embedded in my brain.

haha. this was just someone in passing saying "it's like she is schizophrenia but she likes her other personality." and i am just like... must not... go... crazy... on... innocent.
